Swedish applications pair a factual CV with a personal letter, and language choice follows the advertisement. This page covers Swedish CV conventions and how to complete the printable template on this page.
The document is a CV, written in Swedish for Swedish-language ads and English for international roles — match the advertisement. One to two pages, reverse chronological with month and year. Personal details include contact information, date of birth, and often citizenship, which matters where a work permit is involved. A photo is common on Swedish CVs though not mandatory; a professional headshot is the traditional norm, and omitting it is increasingly accepted by international-facing employers.
The application normally includes a personligt brev (personal letter) — one page on why this employer and this role — unless the ad says CV only. Swedish professional culture values understatement: concrete facts, measured claims and clean structure outperform superlatives. Language proficiency gets its own clear section (Språkkunskaper), and references are either noted as "referenser lämnas på begäran" (given on request) or listed with consent. Explain any chronology gaps with a short line rather than leaving months unaccounted for.
Fill the template top-down: contact block with date of birth and citizenship first, then profile, then experience with exact month/year dates. The language table (Språkkunskaper) should carry real levels — it is one of the first sections Swedish recruiters read. Rewrite the sample bullets into measured, number-backed results, and set references to "on request" unless you have named referees' consent. Press Print / Save as PDF — A4 is pre-set — and save as Fornamn_Efternamn_CV.pdf. The resume builder holds an editable version of the same sections for tailoring per application.
If the advertisement is in Swedish, yes — reply in Swedish even if parts of the role involve English. English-language ads at international employers accept an English CV. When the ad is bilingual, a bilingual CV or two versions is the strongest option.
Common, though not required. Traditional Swedish CVs include a professional headshot; international-facing and tech employers increasingly accept photo-free CVs. Match the company's style — if in doubt and you have a good headshot, include it.
The personal letter: a one-page letter explaining why this employer and this role, connected to your actual experience. Most Swedish applications include it alongside the CV; where an ad says "CV suffices", follow that instruction instead.
Either write "referenser lämnas på begäran" (references given on request) on the CV or name two referees with their permission. Have their contact details ready — Swedish employers often ask at second-interview stage.
